Saarijärvi allows fishing on several bountiful lakes such as the clear Pyhäjärvi, on several rapids, and on the Pajulampi pond by the city centre.

You do not need to be a professional to try your luck, just hook a worm and give it a go. Dawn and dusk are the best times for fishing, as this is the time when the small fish come out of hiding to hunt for insects. When the small fish get going, the bigger and more valuable fish do too, so this is the time when you can catch the best fish. FISHING SPOTS IN SAARIJÄRVI

KONTTIJOKI – KOTAJOKI, RAPID FISHING 

The fishing area is expansive, as the rapids are over ten kilometres long combined. The destination is at its best in early summer and autumn, because there might not be much water in the rapids in the middle of summer.

Stocked species in the rapid are zander and trout. Natural species include perch, grayling, and pike. Casting and fly fishing are allowed. There is a shelter and a fire pit in the area.

MUITTARINKOSKI – RIEKONKOSKI, 

RAPID FISHING

The rapids are about 5 kilometres from each other, the Muittarinkoski rapid runs into the Mahlunjärvi lake and the Riekonkoski rapid runs into the Saarijärvi lake. PAJULAMPI, RECREATIONAL FISHING

DESTINATION 

This licence-based recreational fishing destination is maintained by the Saarijärvi Association. The pond is stocked with rainbow trout and whitefish. If you want to fish from a boat, you can rent one at Ranta-Kivi at the address Jyväskyläntie 34. Hyppyrimäentie 5, 43100 Saarijärvi, 014 333 3777.

KARAJOKI

A somewhat lesser-known fishing spot located near the major rapids of Lake Saarijärvi. Situated along Karajoentie Road, the rapids are surrounded by stunning rural scenery. Visitors to the area can also take advantage of the services offered by the nearby Jakola Farm.

HEIJOSTENKOSKI

A rapids fishing spot where you can catch trout, perch, whitefish, and pike. Heijostenkoski has restroom facilities and a campfire site.
